Stucco Lime-Wash Repaint

Josh and his crew just finished a very challenging job painting the exterior of our 1939 stucco house at 723 Mountjoy. He’s also painted my office and done some interior work here at home.

The exterior project was complicated. Josh did a ton of research on the problem. He suggested solutions that worked. His crews were excellent. From planning to prep to painting and clean up they tried very hard to please us. Josh really listens to the customer so that everyone is on the same page.

Details of the nightmare job.

The house was given what was called a “lime wash” many many years ago. This was a cheap way to produce a white stucco that wouldn’t need painting. Unfortunately it also meant that trying to paint over the lime wash was fraught with difficulty. The last owners of the house painted over the lime wash four years ago just before selling it to us. The paint didn’t stick.

Josh proposed that we use a power washer with a spinner tip to remove the last paint job and then use a product to go through the lime wash and prep for the new paint. Josh also suggested a partial elastomer paint.

The spinner tip worked better than we could have imagined removing most of the lime wash along with the last paint job. The new paint looks fantastic. The crew was professional, sober, thoughtful, present, everything you could ask for.
